Bursitis treatment

Bursitis hip

       Bursitis hip is a common problem that causes pain in the lateral thigh, affecting a large number of people with hip pain. The bursa is a sac that contains fluid, and facilitates the movement between two surfaces. The bursa is located between the bony prominence of the greater trochanter and a strong tendon that passes over the bone.

       The causes of bursitis may be associated with different types of patients:

  • Trauma: local trauma on the side of the thigh, specifically on the trochanteric bursa

Elbow bursitis

       In the back of the elbow, the triceps muscle attaches to the bone to hold the extension. Separating this set of skin, there is a small pouch (bursa) that produces some liquid and serves to prevent friction during movement of flexion-extension. In many situations, it can start producing more fluid, swelling, and can become hot, red and cause pain. The most common causes of elbow bursitis:

  • Trauma: goalkeeper hitting his elbow on the floor to make a defense
  • Drop: When we eat protein, it is broken down into amino acids and some cross crystals. In some individuals these crystals may be deposited in any joint or in the "bursa" causing an inflammation reaction.
  • Infection: It can happen after a simple scratch on the back of the elbow when some micro-organisms penetrate the skin barrier and cause infection of the elbow, with the presence of pus within the bursa.

        Most cases improve with medication, ice packs, rest and avoid direct contact with the affected area.

Bursitis exercises

       To continue moving the joint is important, so certain bursitis exercises are a necessary part of treatment.
