Bursitis can have four origins:
Ischial bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa that separates the gluteus maximus of the underlying ischial tuberosity, usually because of prolonged sitting on hard surfaces. The most common symptom is pain on the affected area. Other symptoms include tenderness and stiffness but also discomfort in the affected area which may increase in the night. Ischial bursitis picturesThe main cause of the ischial bursitis is sitting for long periods of time in the same position or on a rough surface. Ischial bursa gets inflammed and causes pain. Ischial bursitis is very common in people who practice sport like runners or athelets. Because symptoms are similar to sciatica people often treat them for this and that means a surgery is involved. In order to avoid back problems that will soon appear you should have a right diagnose. Sometimes rest, ice, different mixtures prepared at home for local use only or NSAIDs doesn't real help and people may have to require surgery. Some people think surgery will solve their problems but is not true. You should have surgery if other treatments haven't have results. In severe cases specialists recommend steroid injection or aspiration. Ischial burstis requires physical therapy in order to regain the muscles mobility but also strenght. You should also avoid rough areas and sitting on the chair for long time. Many cases of bursitis are due to wrist strain activities such as painting, wallpapering and should be avoided. Activities with which you are not used, should be conducted only for short periods. In the initial phase of bursitis,we can choose the treatment with ice packs. Apply ice pack for 30 minutes every two or three hours. When the pain decreases you can use hot compresses. Applying hot compresses when the disease just starts, make the pain more acute, because the accumulation of fluid in the bursa. Hot compress should be applied 45-60 minutes and followed by exercises at least once a day. Heat must be as we can tolerate. |
